Radio Fox Hunting
White Rock Lake, Dallas TX
The White Rock Lake ARC sponsors Radio Fox Hunting in the area surrounding White Rock Lake, Dallas Texas. Three VHF, one UHF, and two 80m HF radio transmitters are provided by Dave Catlett, amateur call K5YR, and David Ricker, KG5VSR. These small transmitters are put out for amateur radio operators (hounds) to practice radio direction finding (Fox Hunting) on the east side of Dallas, Texas.

  • Days: 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month -- Next Hunt: May 5, 2024
  • Hours: 09:00 to 18:00 Sunday
  • Fox #1: Rocky, 146.565 Mhz, FM (700mw)
  • Fox #2: Bullwinkle, 146.545 Mhz, FM (15mw)
  • Fox #3: Boris Badenov, 146.580 Mhz, FM (15mw)
  • Fox #4: Natasha Fatale, 446.100 Mhz, FM (1w)
  • Fox #5: Mister Peabody, 3.580 Mhz, CW, sends MO (dah dah space dah dah dah) (250mw)
  • Fox #6: Sherman, 3.570 Mhz, CW, sends MI (dah dah space dit dit) (15 mw)
  • Signal Cycle: Each VHF and UHF fox transmits once every 60 seconds. The 80m foxes transmit continuously.
LOCATIONS WHEN ON THE LOOSE:
  • Always within 1.5 mile of the shore of White Rock Lake
  • Always on public land (parks, schools, libraries, post offices, dog parks, hiking/bicycle trails, etc.).

NOTE: These radio foxes will typically be located in positions that are not "drive up" and will usually require some hunting by foot.

NOTE: When you locate Rocky, look at the back of the card. There you will find the latitude of Bullwinkle. When you find Boris, look at the back of that card and you will find the longitude of Bullwinkle. Put the two coordinates together, navigate to that location and you will be able to hear Bullwinkle. You can then direction find your way to Bullwinkle's location.

IF YOU FIND ANY OF THE FOXES ON THE LOOSE, FOLLOW THE QR CODE LOCATED ON THE CARD NEAR THE TRANSMITTER TO ACCESS THE REPORTING DATABASE. ONCE LOGGED IN, ENTER THE 6-DIGIT CODE ALSO FOUND ON THE CARD NEAR THE TRANSMITTER. THE CODE IS DIFFERENT EACH WEEKEND THE FOXES ARE OUT.
